Australia has a new Queen of the 10,000m πŸ‘‘

Congrats to @aps_sport & @geelonggrammar School Alumna Lauren Ryan (GGS2016) who claimed her first ever Australian Open title at the Zatopek meet last night! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

An exciting Women’s race saw a three-way battle as two-time winner Rose Davies along with emerging distance stars Lauren Ryan and Holly Campbell taking turns as the pilot.

With 200m to go, World Championships representative Lauern broke away from her rivals in the see-sawing affair, widening the gap enough to confidently begin her celebrations in the home straight.

β€œIt still hasn’t sunk in! To pull it off is always exciting, it’s a testament to my coach and the training we are doing.” Ryan said.

β€œWith three laps to go I was thinking can I do it or can I not? The pace stepped up a bit and then with 200m to go I had that feeling of go now or it’s not going to happen. I went and didn’t look back.”

Lauren crossed the finish line in 32:54.00.

Well done Lauren - Huge result! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Great to see other #APS Alumni competeing at the Zatopek 10,000 meet including @aps_sport record holders Logan Janetski (OW2022) @wesleycollege_melbourne, Amy Bunnage (OH2022) @haileyburyschool & Haftu Srintzos (OH2021) @haileyburyschool.

Congrats to @aps_sport Rep & @stkevinscollege alumni Jack Lunn (SKC2019) who won the Mens 800m athletics event at the 2023 Pacific Games on Tuesday breaking a Pacific Games record that had stood since 1999!!

Australian athlete Jack Lunn achieved a remarkable feat on his way to @sol2023_pacificgames gold in the men’s 800m on Tuesday by smashing the Pacific Games record that had stood for 24 years.

The previous record of 1 minute, 49.54 seconds, set by Isireli Naikelekelevesi from Fiji in the 1999 Mini Games in Guam, has now been surpassed by Jack’s exceptional performance, winning gold in 1:48.43.

Jack Paine from New Zealand secured silver in 1:51.72 sec and Vishant Reddy from Fiji secured bronze, finishing in 1:51.80.

@athleticsaustralia and the Australian Olympic Committee selected only 20 athletes to compete for valuable experience and added points, looking towards the Olympic Games in 2024.

This comes off the back of some great performances in Europe earlier this year, as well as at the World University Games where Jack made the final.

After the race Jack stated: β€œI dedicate this win to my family and my country. I’m happy with the win”.

To complete the @stkevinscollege puzzle, Jack is coached by Steve Fabris (SKC2005) who is also a current staff member and Head Coach of the distance athletes in the College athletics team.

Well done & best of luck Jack as you strive towards the highest achievement in the sport of athletics! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
