The @aps_sport community is saddened to hear of the passing of two sporting icons and #APS Alumni in recent days.

Vale Ian Redpath, MBE (1941-2024)

Ian Redpath, MBE. Ian attended @geelong_college from 1953-1958 & played First XI for the school and represented @aps_sport in Cricket in 1957 & 1958.

Ian then went on to represent Victoria and then Australia (cap #227) in 66 Tests and hit eight centuries from 1964 to 1976, with a top score of 171.
A highly respected member of the Australian side, he became vice-captain to Ian Chappell for the home Test series against England in 1974-75.

He was also a huge contributor to Victorian cricket in a number of roles, including as a player and men’s coach.

A Champion on & off the field!

Vale Neale Fraser AO MBE (1933-2024)

Neale Fraser, AO MBE. Neale attended @stkevinscollege from 1945-1050 & played First VIII Tennis for the school.

Neale won 19 major titles (3 singles, 11 doubles, 5 mixed doubles), including defeating Rod Laver in the Wimbledon & US finals in 1960. He also reached World No.1 in 1959 & 1960.

Neale is recognised as a legend in Davis Cup. He represented Australia as a player in the Davis Cup from 1955-63, before captaining the team for more than 20 years after his retirement, leading the team to four titles.

Neale is the last man to have completed the triple crown, i.e. having won the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles at a Grand Slam tournament, which he managed on two consecutive occasions, in 1959 and 1960 (both times at US National, now known as US Open); no male player has equalled this feat at any Grand Slam tournament since.

After his playing days were over, he was non-playing captain of Australia's Davis Cup team for a record 24 years.
He also represented Australia as a player in the Davis Cup from 1955-63, before captaining the team for 24 years after his retirement, leading the team to 4 titles.

Generations of players were inspired by his leadership, and he was loved and well respected gentleman,

Both much loved and well respected men, Ian & Neale will sadly be missed by many.

Our condolences and thoughts are with both families & friends during this sad time.

RIP Ian & Neale
Congrats to Lucy Dovison @caulfieldgs and Jonah Mercieca @stkevinscollege who represented Australia alongside two other divers in the Team event at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Lucy, Jonah & team mates won the Silver medal for Australia in the Mixed 3m & 10m Team event with USA first and Ukraine third.

Lucy also competed in the 3m synchronised event and finished in 6th place in the final. In her individual 3m event she finished in 11th place in the final.

Jonah also competed in the 3m individual event and placed 19th. In the Platform synchronised event he finished in 5th place in the final and in the individual platform event he finished in 9th place in the final.

Both Lucy & Jonah currently hold #APS Diving records – Lucy Open Girls & Jonah Boys U14 & U16.

Fantatstic results by our own #APS Divers Lucy & Jonah!

Well done & congratulations on your achievements!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Congrats to @aps_sport Rep Alumnae in Bella Eddey (OH 2019) @haileyburyschool & Kim Rennie (OC2012) @careygrammar along with their @nmfcwomens team mates on winning the 2024 @aflwomens πŸ† Premiership against @lionsaflw last night!

The Kangaroos entered the competition in 2019 and are the first expansion club to win an AFLW flag and the first team in VFL/AFL/AFLW history to go through a season undefeated (a draw against Geelong back in September is the only blemish).

Final score: @nmfcwomens 6.3.39 defeated @lionsaflw 1.3 .9

Bella has played over 60 games for the Kangaroos after being drafted in 2020 and won a @aflwomens Rising Star nomination in 2022!

Kim an #APS Rep Basketballer, previously played for the @bulldogsw having been signed as a rookie in 2017 & making her debut in 2018, after having converted to the sport from a previous background in basketball. In the 2021 AFL Women's draft, Kim joined North Melbourne, who used the 28th pick for her. Kim has played 75+ @aflwomens games.

Congrats Bella, Kim & team! Well done on this historic achievement!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
