Its been a wonderful season for @aps_sport rep & @ Its been a wonderful season for @aps_sport rep & @geelonngcollege alumni and current @catswomen player Stephanie Williams (OGC20)

Steph selected #27 in last years @AFLW Draft played her first game for the Cats on February 6 against Western Bulldogs & this week plays her third game against Richmond in the AFLW Indigenous Round.

The perpetually upbeat Stephanie will have an extra spring in her step when she runs out for Geelong’s Round 5 AFLW clash at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night.

The talented 18-year-old will be wearing an Indigenous-themed jumper for the first time, with the Cats to wear a design by Waddawurrung woman Corinna Eccles.

Williams says she was “amazed” when she saw the design.

“I grabbed it and took a long look at it; looked at the back of it, the front of it, just trying to soak in the design,” she said.

“Really, I was just super proud of the club and a really proud feeling inside because it is the first women’s (indigenous) jumper.

“I’m very stoked, and I’m so happy when I wear it, so I can’t wait to wear it next week.”

Eccles says the jumper, which will also be worn by the Cats’ AFL team during the 2021 men’s season, represents a local story.

“I wanted to tell the story of Wadawurrung country, the story of Djilang, and take people back on a journey to what the country was like prior to how we see the built environment today,” Eccles said.

“In the design, I have the Kardiniu, the sunrise taking place, and the two teams coming together to play what we call Marngrook.

“The Barwon River is a place that our eels would travel down. The eels then meet on our coast, our saltwater country. I’ve represented the waves of our saltwater country.

“Then we have our mountain country, our big hills and Bunjil.

“Bunjil watches over this country he created; he will often fly over the stadium, watching over country and the river.”

Good luck Steph & enjoy this special moment. 👌👏👏👏
